Measles: What You Need to Know

*This is an evolving situation and information regarding measles is changing rapidly. Please check back frequently for updates.

General Information about Measles:

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that primarily affects children but can also infect unvaccinated adults. It spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms typically appear 7-14 days after exposure and include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic red, blotchy rash. Measles can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis, and even death. The best protection against measles is vaccination with the MMR vaccine, which also protects against mumps and rubella.
